We got a 89 capri thats been sitting around for 2 years. Ran great the first few weekends then just suddenly wont run at all. Runs fine outside of the water but as soon as theres a load on the prop it just bogs. We've replaced the fuel pump with an electric one, cleaned the carbs, put the boyesen reed kit in, changed plugs and still not working. The only thing that concerned me with the reed kit is it said to take the factory reed stop off and use what was in the kit. Would like to take our boad out a few more times before it gets too cold here so any help would be appreciated.

On the muffs, what RPM are you hitting? Generally when it stalls in the water, the idle rpm is to low, if compression is ok. Have you checked compression?

I'm not familiar with the boyesen reed kit so someone with experience is better answering that question for you.

I've used the Boyesen reed kits and yes, the curved metal reed stop plate should be taken off with the Boyesen reeds. Don't over torque the screws or you will distort the composite reeds. Use some lock-tite on the screws.

As far as your problem, check the compression in all cylinders and check for spark on all three cylinders.

An electric fuel pump???
What pressure pump?
Too much pressure will actually stop the fuel flow.

An electric fuel pump on an outboard is like adding a BOMB to your family vacation!!!
No reason at all to put something so dangerous in a boat.

The newer I/O's have them but they are marine approved.

Check the fuel vent line.

I have good compression and loctite the screws. I read a bunch on here before doing this.

As far as an electric pump goes its a 3-5 psi pump and it is marine approved. Still trying to figure out the bogging. Theres no tach on the dash so I dont know what RPM im getting.
