Hey everyone,
First time posting in a forum so I hope I don’t F it up lol
Ok so I have a 89 gt 200 Johnson and I have lost top end power. My hole shot is flat and I’m stuck at 40 mph when it used to be 55 mph fully trimmed out.
i have had a complete motor rebuild, stator, base timing unit, CDI unit, a bottom crank seal all replaced .the fuel pressure has bin checked and no issue there. the carbs have bin rebuild and balanced. All the repairs have bin performed at a Reputable Marina.
so last year was the first year after the rebuild and all was good. Twice over the summer the no power happened but a simple restart and the issue corrected its self. This year 21 i got 5 hours of use then permanent no Top end, and that’s when the cdi, bottom crank seal was installed. No vacuum leaks present . So before I sell it I thought I would read some forms and try my luck.
I found a other post that was 100% the same issue but I never found out what the issue was so here I’m trying my luck to see if anyone can help me before I sell it !
thanks in advance

I thought I had the motor is a fresh rebuild so normal compression. The spark plugs are new and gapped to spec. And as I said I have replaced the cdi box and the bottom crank seal since the issue started

You need to measure the compression (screw in style tester that you can borrow or rent), and measure spark at each lead with a proper tester (not the inline type). Post your findings.

I don’t have the specs but the marina has done all this with in the last week and everything had tested perfect

You have a motor that does not perform, but insist that the shop fixed it. Don't know how to help you.

That’s not what I’m saying
I’m saying that they have checked the spark plug gap and the fuel pressure and the compression and all are with in spec. So that is why I’m asking if anyone has had this issue witch it looks like they have and what was it

Assume nothing…..the fact that they’ve done all this work, “everything is in spec”, and the motor still doesn’t run right speaks volumes to their diagnostic capabilities.

Something doesn’t add up. Why would you need a lower crank seal on a freshly rebuilt motor?

If the compression is even and issue corrected itself with a ignition “reset”, I would focus on testing the timer base and power pack.

The lower end seal was replaced because it was back ordered when I rebuilt it
