Got the motor alingned with my new bar..(other thread)....drive installed correct with shifter in forward prop locks to port.... Shift back to neutral and prop spins free both ways...Now i try to shift to rev and it will not go....very stiff and i dont want to force it!
Rams and pressure hoses still removed from outdrive

Now this was all taking apart.....rams and hoses from outdrive block.....hoses removed from shifter plate that goes to trim pump. I left the all the cables hooked up to shifter plate as they were.

Trim pump and hoses all hooked back up to shifter plate with no fluid in hoses. Fluid in pump

Do i need to get the trim/reverse lock system back in working order with fluid for the shifter to go into rev without the engine running?

Naw, it shouldn't matter,... All the lock does is close the return oil passage,...

Thanks Bondo.......It's been so long since i had it together and i couldnt quite remember. I was thinking it should work.......But you know that short term memory lost thing!... I musta muffed up on the drive instalation.

I'll mess with it this weekend and get it straighten out.

Re: 898/MC-1 reverse lock question

Update: As usual Bondo spot on......

Did some reading in the manual and had to adjust the shift lever adjustable stud on the shift plate......now it goes into forward and reverse like it should...prop locks both ways and yes it does have a new shift cable!

Just goes to show..reading the manual goes along way.

Of course when i get it on the water next spring... ill have to final adjust.

Now onto bleeding the trim pump.

Thanks,
Mike
