I replaced the carb.

Took out the sparkplugs and sprayed Seafoam into them. Then I had to put the motor into gear to start.

I closed the choke and it started. I put additional seafoam into the carb and it almost immedieately started purring like a cat.

I tried to move it back to netural and it would die. I tried to adjust by turning in the slow idle screw. Did not help.

The choke has to be almost completely closed to run. About a 1/16 to 1/8 opening only
.
When I open the choke it up more, it wants to die.

The slow idle screw does nothing. I screwed it in completely and it had no effect on it.

Any suggestions?

sounds like you need a carb cleaning.

Especially the high speed orifice plug. It is deep in the hole behind the hex head plug in the very bottom of the carburetor. Takes a special screwdriver to get it out without damage. It must be absolutely, positively, squeeky CLEAN or it will cause the trouble you describe. Do not make the orifice larger in your attempts to clean it. It will never work again if you do.
