9.5 HP Johnson starter recoil

I have a 9.5 hp Johnson that the starter recoil has gone out. Can anyone tell me/show me what I have to do to repair it?

I just redid my start rope and did a writeup on it under 9.5 johnson start rope I think.
What broke on yours- the gear or the spring or what? Its two regular head screws holding down the starter and you can take it off and see if the spring is broken from there.
