I'm thinking about barrowing my buddies row bost and motor this weekend to do some fishing. I know a little about boat motors. He know less than me. He got this boat and motor for free and it run great. Last time I used it was 2 yrs ago.

Anyway... Is the gas/oil ratio 50:1? Thats what i used last time and it ran fine...

And what oil do you use in the lower unit. We have never checked it and the last owner only changed it once... I want to change it to be safe. My bud's dad has used it this year and ran fine... But I just don't want anything to happen when I'm using it....

Thanks.

Lupton, Mi

btw.... its an early 90's motor... around 1993 i think.

Welcome to iboats!
50:1 is correct. You can get LU at Wal-Mart. Don't use regular gear oil like for a car. The marine oil helps protect against moisture. Make sure you replace the gaskets on the drain and fill screws as well.

Not sure how much a 9.8 holds, I'd get 2 tubes to make sure you have enough on hand. It's Marine grade 80 weight oil. If your not sure ask at the store. NAPA may have it is well.
