Ok I have heard some talk about putting a 15 carb on a 9.9. I was on brp.com and was comparing the 2 i don't see any difference really not even the carb, same part numbers and every thing. The motor in question is a 79 that i was thinking about working on. Any ideas and is it worth putting the 15 carb on it if I can get it for a good price. Thanks

This subject has been talked to death here. Do a search, and you'll probably get half the threads listed. '79 is right about the time where there started to be other differences, exhaust tube for one. You'll get far more power optimizing how that motor sits on your transom than a carb swap.

You won't find a "reasonably priced" 15hp carb anyway due to the whole swap the carbs story.

You'll want the anti-cav plate even with to 1-2" above the keel (do some experimenting). Raise the motor up until you get that. You may need to place a block of wood on top of the transom to prevent it from slipping down.
