Hello all. new to the outboard scene and NEED some good ole advise! i got a 99 gamefisher 9.9 used. guy i bought it from says he used i 2 times then stored it.(i believe him the prop n motor r very clean). problem is this- took the boat out in fresh water ran it at wot for bout 1 hr no problem. then all of a sudden it felt like the motor was goin in neutral. ( like a bad clutch slipps in a car) but only in little spurts. so i slow r down to try n limp it in, starts slippin real bad, and smokin(white smoke). so i killed er off and rowed. now i got a 12 ft aluminum v hull boat wheighs bout 100 lbs. 6 gall feul cell, and me n my buddy combined weigh bout 400 lbs. the motors about 65 lbs. now some people told me the plastic prop that comes with it from the factory is good 4 300 lbs. am i overloading the prop and thats whats slippin? ive been told that props sometimes slip inside the bushing. i dont know. i took prop off and used a pair of vise grips to try and turn the prop on the bushing but no go! also. whats with the smoke! 1st time runnin it (only ran it twice) no smoke ran hot. changed thermostat and all good. 2nd time motor feels like its slippin and smoke out the wazu! any help on this troubling matter would be appreciated. thanks trig. PS i checked the gear oil in the lower unit and it looks good. no metal/water. so i dont think its the gears, or i hope it aint!
