I have a evinrude 9.9 CD ignition power head wich suffered from bad water recovery. It need crink, con rods and pistons. to find these parts I need to identify the year of my powerhead(I have heard pistons and some other parts were different from 1977-1981 and 1981-1989) is there a way to identify the year with only powerhead and cover? I have some pictures I can send.

thanks
michel

Check on the top of the engine for a round silver plug with numbers scribed into it. It looks like this:

Post the numbers you find here.

Good luck!

Re: 9.9 powerhead identification and part interchange

We hoped you would find two numbers, a model number and a serial number. Unfortunetly that's just the serial number, and there's no way to tell the year for sure with it.

However, searching this sight finds:
C7031103 35hp 1979
C7031348 4hp 1979
c7035621 9.9hp 1979
C7040114 4hp 1979
C7041271 20hp 1979
C7050179 15hp 1979

(Your outboard here)

C7062530 20hp 1979
C7084703 7.5hp 1980

There is nothing conclusive about the above analysis. Try to confirm this by checking for date codes on the powerpacs, etc.

Hope this helps!

Re: 9.9 powerhead identification and part interchange

I had/have a similar problem with my 15hp... the ID tag's gone, and only the serial number on the plug in the block. I think Canadian motors were stamped different than american ones. The most definative way I came up with to get the year was to watch ebay for motors like mine. Eventually I saw enough of the cowl decal styles, that I'm pretty certain mine is an '82 (+/- a year).

I didn't think there were differences in the internals, just the electrical. Have you seen this link?

9.9/15 hp OMC article

good luck,

Brent
