I have a 1980 Chrysler sea king 9.9 that the shift lever is stuck in forward after doing a water pump kit replacement. I put it back together exactly the way it came apart and it will not shift. What I have read so far says the lower shift rod hole should be 3/16 of an inch below housing in neutral for everything to line up right. Mine will not even go below the housing level. Next I read that you could turn the engine over slowly and gently pull up on shift lever and it would mesh with gear case. Have turned it over a hundred plus times and the shift lever will not move. I am lost.
