Re: 90 hp ficht - stumbling

Thanks for the confirmation about the injectors, boobie.

Tim, what's the model # of your ficht? I'm trying to cross reference the lift pump rebuild kit.

I'm also glad to learn about pre-2000 models not needing the plugs indexed.

I should also mention that I've done some other things recently that could possibly contribute to the problem at hand:

1. Installed a new Moeler 24g fuel tank, and 3/8" type B1 fuel line to water seperator. At the water seperator I switched the in/out lines so that 'in' to the filter comes from tank, and 'out' goes to motor. It was opposite of that for the last 10 years....maybe i should change it back.
2. Pulled out the port tstat just to see if i could get it out. Put it back in without any sealant (didn't know what to use)
3. Changed the lower unit oil and found it to be pretty milky. Ordered new fill/vent washers but haven't checked the oil again. Will do that today when I get back from fishing/testing.
4. Found a loose battery cable lug - pulled the lug off easily. Recrimped it and checked other terminals - ok.
5. I replaced the stator a couple of years ago, but maybe it's not doing its job any more??? Is there a test w/ a mm I can do?

I'm looking for a 6gal portable tank to bypass my fuel system and go straight to the motor. If nothing else, I can eliminate any suspects outside the motor.

I'll get back this afternoon with a report. thanks everyone that's hanging in there with me. emotional support is critical at this stage - ready to make a new fishing spot with this baby.

Re: 90 hp ficht - stumbling

After re-crimping the battery lead terminals and running this morning it seemed like that was all that was the matter. When I left the dock everything sounded back to normal. Ran about 3 minutes and stopped at a spot to fish, shut down the motor for 20 minutes, caught a magnificant trout of about 27", then cranked back up and headed to another spot. To my dismay, the same stumbling/missing problem has returned. In addition, the starter wouldn't engage for quite a while. It finally cranked and I ran for 15 minutes to be sure I was fully charged. The starter continued to give me issues throughout the morning. Now I'm thinking I need to pull the cables out and have them crimped with a real crimper, along with checking the other cable connections from my solenoid, starter, etc.

My question, could a bad connection be the cause of the missing/stumbling?
does the solenoid have anything to do with the performance after the starter has done its job?

Re: 90 hp ficht - stumbling

Thanks to all for your help. Come to find out, battery terminal connections need to be crimped well. I replaced all of the terminals between the solenoid and the battery and that seems to have fixed the problem. I replaced the battery (had a deep cycle in there by mistake) with a starting battery also.

Only two issues with the motor at this point. The starter will not engage 50% of the time. I'll have to pull the mid section covers off to get to the starter battery post and check it. Also noticed milky lower unit oil so I replaced the plug gaskets (2) and will do an oil change after a few more hours to see how it looks this time.

Thanks again to all.
