I have a 2004 2 stroke 90hp Yamaha. I need to change the oil in the lower unit but I have no idea how. I'm sure that there are threads somewhere that explain how it's done but I can't find them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff, if you have so little experience you really need a Service Manual. Helpers here can help you use the Manual, but are not a substitute for one.

pretty simple really, but a manual will certainly help, a basic rundown is: get a suitable contaner to drain oil into, remove both plugs, the lower one and the top one, drain all oil, look for any suspicious metal bits in the oil and on the magnet, buy two bottles of the correct oil, fit pointy end of bottle into lower screw hole and sqeeze bottle untill you have squirted as much as you can in, get the second bottle and repeat untill oil flows out of top hole, replace top screw, the seal created will preven too much leaking out the bottom, refit lower screw and your done, it also pays to replace both washers under the screws.

Do a YouTube search - There are several vids about sevicing the lower unit. One in particular shows exactly what your asking for.....

Also, generally the drain/vent screws look the same and are rather large, so do not remove a screw that doesn't have a mate.

you should also think about getting a pump(screws into the bottom hole in the lower unit)..they only cost about $15 but are really handy and make it alot easier and not as messy..Hang on to the pump so you will have it for the next oil change..

yes, indeed a pump will make life easy, but is it is just a one off, then the squeeze bottle method works, bad thing is, you need 2 bottles of Oil, but only really use one, you just can't squeeze it all in, but you end up with a spare for next time.
