I'm posting this for a friend. He said he went out fishing the other day, did some drifting and when he headed back to the launch he heard the alarm going off, checked the motor and it wasn't pissing. He thinks it's the impeller.Could it be the water pump? Also,he said all the shops in our area are booked solid for the summer and wants to do the work himself but he thinks ya need special tools to change the impeller.Any ideas?
Thanks,
Stu

Stu G, Dont know about special tools but you
should have a ser. manual before starting any repair. You can find them at NAPA,the tab at the top of this page,amazon.com,ebay,etc.The library has them for reference.Grubbs Marine at:
www.old mercs.com may have reprint owners and ser.
manuals depending on how old. Goodluck.

Re: 90 hp merc.

The impeller is in the water pump. DO NOT RUN THIS MOTOR UNTILL THIS IS FIXED!!!!! I have a old H.P. Merc in my garage that suffered a powerhead failure after running without a water pump. The only "special" tool needed is a Clymer or Seloc book and a little common sense. Good luck!!
