Sorry, not to side rail this post, but what boat you have? My 90hp Boston whaler can only run 32mph........

1983 is correct. At idle the throttle butterflys should be completely closed. All 4 of them. The only air the engine needs at idle comes through the small holes in the butterflys. If the butterflys are cracked slightly open it can run much higher rpm's when in neurtral. You'll need to look at the sync and link to validate that it's set correctly.

Does the advance stop go right back to rest when throttle is at minimum? Post a picture of the linkage. If your files are too large, post to Photobucket and link.

So here's the wrap up. I had to get someone else to look at it for me. Turns out there was a 'foreign object' stuck in the carb. A piece of plastic. Must have dislodged when I hit whatever. I had looked and saw nothing though! Anyway, it's gone and it's running fine again. Other than the PTT, but that's another thread... Thx for all the ideas.
