Hey guys---I have a 1994 sea rayder with a 90 hp sport jet. When I bought the boat there was no spark. I replaced the switch box and the rectifier. The engine had spark and ran for a couple minutes. Now wont run and no spark again.
The flywheel magnets were shattered and kind of scraped up the stator. (red) After replacing the flywheel assy the engine wont run and has no spark again. My question is- what could have been damaged by the magnet failure . Is the stator now damaged due to being scraped up? Could this have caused the switch box to fail again?

Welcome to iboats.

The stator may have shorted out or broken a wire. You'd need to check for resistance between wires and no continuity to ground. I doubt it would affect the switchbox.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the stator for continuity and it was within the permissable ohm range . I checked it for ground and it was not grounded but the red plastic insulator was completely scraped off and the metal inside was exposed and scraped. ?????
I ordered a new stator and hope to install it this evening.

Re: 90 hp sportjet no spark

You were right---the switchbox was still ok---I installed the stator and the engine fired right up---ran great. I didnt run it for more than 5 seconds or so because it is on the tralier with no water supply. Now there is fuel filling up the air intake and leaking into the bilge. I tapped the carbs lightly with hammer to possibly free sticking needle valve in carb??? I was thinking maybe run WOT on the water might clear up my overfueling condition.

Any thoughts???
