90 starter problems

I have a 2002 classic 90. When I turn the key all I get is the sound of a blender full of screws. I left it at the marina and the mechanic told my wife something fell off. And its will be a week come monday. Are parts that hard to come by? Thanks

The guy didn't say. What is there to the starter system? I had the cover off and the starter turned. But either there is something between the starter and the little gear that turns the flywheel. Or the starter is not engaging that gear. I need a manual obliviously.

Are there any web sites that show the top part of the motors. Funny I can find the lower unit diagram anywhere.
