Hello,

I have a 175hp rude as mentioned. The gas inlet broke on the VRO ( was repaired by previous owner, unbeknownst to me before I bought it.) Anyway I am looking at converting to just a regular fuel pump. The previous owner had disconnected the VRO and was premixing already. I was hoping someone could walk me through sizing the proper replacement. I know their were 2 different models of the 175, 3 carb & 6 carb. Mine is the 3 carb model.

thanks,

When you say it's a 3 carb model, it's likely you have a crossflow engine. You have a couple of options for that engine. Bombardier does make a VRO-type pump but with the fuel side only (no oiling section.) It's a premix pump. Bolts right in place of your old pump. You'll have to contact a dealer for p/n and pricing. You'll same maybe $80 over the standard VRO type pump. The last year for the old version dual premix pumps was 1983. If you check out the parts for that 1983 year's 150GT/XP you will see the configuration and hoses used just prior to the advent of the VRO pump. The current upper pump is part number 438559. The correct current lower pump is 393870. Actually they are the same pump, but one of them comes with a special heat-formed "J" hose which you will need. This is probably the cheaper alternative if you want to go premix.

I've been doing some research into the 2 pump setup. My question now is, where do you pick up a 2nd pulse line for the 2nd pump? From what I've read, you shouldn't split the current impulse line that is there.

That engine block should be drilled for a 2nd pulse line. Look just below the current one and see if there is a plug in the block. Remove it and install another hose barb fitting.

Thank you, I found the plug and have ordered my parts.
