i think the carb is dirty still. i have had a few small johnnyrudes. the 90's carbs have a really small idle circuit. it plugs very easy. take apart the carb and check to make sure all the orifices are clear. had one that i had to pull and clean the carb a few times before all the crud in the fuel system shook loose.

That's for the advice... I'm still waiting to get a chance to clean the carb... The flu has made a nasty run through our house in the last week!

OK.... Maybe found the problem? The parts in this pic just kinds rolled out of the carb! I didn't notice until I was putting it back on. The only thing I removed from the carb was the bowl. Also... After I put it on (before I noticed the two pieces missing) gas was leaking from the tiny hole to the top and right of the air intake.... The same one to the top left is plugged. Maybe this is something I'll have to take the carb apart to replace.

Lol... I need to figure out/fix this gas leak first! As soon as I turn the fuel on it's pouring out of the front of the carb!

Research is showing that is a vent? And most likely issue is the float is either stuck or need adjustment....? Sound right?

Weimed..... just ordered a compression tester...

I posted a 25% off coupon on another topic for harbor freight, if you need one. It cost him ~$16 net and he felt it gave good numbers.

We use snap on, but as long as the shraeder valve is in the base of the hose, it should function well enough.

It's a great tool to have.

Your's isn't a compression problem. It lights right off when you flood the cylinders.

If you want the PO Folk compression test. Remove plug, ground lead (or at least keep it out of the way)...

Using your index finger, seal the plug opening firmly (using a finger), and at the same time reach around front and give the rope starter a good pull - yes it's awkward...and it won't be your best quality pull, but at least you'll give your deltoids a workout.

If it pops your finger off...done. Get back to where you should be focusing, get that carb functioning!

OK.... So I know I probably shouldn't have but even with the leaking carb I still fired it up..... Ran like a champ for about a minute.... Then as I throttled back down to neutral she choked out and quit. But it sounded awesome. Now I need to tear that carb apart and check the float to try and stop the leak.

I agree its most likely not a compression issue. I just want that to confirm you got your self a nice little on. Cancel your order. Go to sears buy a compression tester use it and return it (I do not condone this behavior). Then get back to your carb problem

Re: '91 2hp Johnson won't start

lookup parts list for this motor on boats dot net
I have one of these, check carburettor diagram referenced below
Check lever 18 , operated by the float 12, is not bent and needle valve 19, which the lever presses up, that cuts off fuel when bowl is full has not fallen out.
The fuel will leak if it does not seal
Unscrew main jet and clean hole with tooth brush fibre and keep bowl free of debris.
Great motor, a re-badged tohatsu

I had a carby that leaked and it turned out to be a blocked vent in the bowl .This stopped the float from working properly and fuel would pour out the front of carby.Might be something to check
