Re: 91 Evinrude 140 Problem?

I did use a needle gap tester and also made a homemade tester to see all 4 at once, all did show spark but once a timing light was hooked up and motor was put into gear. The one coil was dropping out, I switched that coil to another piston and that coil did the same at that one also , just nought a new coil and will be trying it out tomorrow. Il get back asap with more info,I really hope this coil was my problem, the coils are only a few months old . It also has a crack on the back plastic filling

Cracks, even in almost new coils, are not a good since, especially in a salt atmosphere, can result in HV breakdowns.

Just curious...what brand are the coils. One would think they should last more than 5 months.

Happy to hear that! I had just ordered 4 CDI coils and a CDI power Pack.

Glad to hear you're back in business ... often, we don't get feedback on success/failure.
