Just bought a 91 astro w/ merc 150-starts fine and runs great in the driveway. Took out this weekend, sometimes starts right up-other times seems the starter isn't engaging the flywheel-I can hear it spinning. Brought it home-starts fine-in the driveway. Took back out Sunday-put in water-won't start. Any ideas?

IF you hear the starter turning but not engaging the flywheel then a starter rebuild is what is needed. Just remove the starter and take it to a auto electric outfit and have them rebuild it.

pull the powerhead cover and watch the starter to see if the solenoid is firing or not. I'm guessing it isn't but if you want to be sure.. :-D
