'92 Force 70HP -- Where is water expelled??

Though I've read several posts here about 70HP Force outboards, I still don't think I understand completely whether this motor is supposed to have a 'pee-hole' or not... My particular motor is a '92 model, and the only place I've noticed water being expelled is through the 3 little 1/2" or so holes on the casing between the powerhead and the lower unit. When I'm on plane, water pulses out these three holes, but it doesn't seem to come out at all when I'm just idling. I have noticed that when I pull the boat out of the water, a little 'pee-stream' comes from what would seem to be a pee hole closer down to the lower unit.... I think this particular pee hole would be under the waterline when running, so maybe it's just peeing underwater.<br /><br />Also, my boat doesn't have a horn, so I'm not sure if there would be any temperature warning on my motor... I've heard talk about a water temp sensor being added, so maybe someone could elaborate on that as well..<br /><br />Thanks!!

Should I maybe put some 'ears' on it and start it in the driveway tonight to see what happens?? Could be that the pee hole is underwater when the motor is trimmed down.... Anyone??

I don't know about the 92 Force, but it's probably similar to my 89 Force 50. Water is expelled thru the idle relief ports (the holes in the back of the lower leg) it sprays out, it doesn't run out. If your impeller is good (you replaced it yourself and know it's good), then the water you see spraying out the holes in the back of the motor is the only indication you have of water pump function. Pee holes were added later, to provide a more visible indication of water pump function. I added a pee hole to my engine by tapping into the fitting above the thermostat on the engine head and its alot more visible than the spray out the back. The water you see draining out the hole when you take it out of the water is just residual water left in the lower leg draining out a small hole by one of the lower unit bolts. Most of the cooling water is actually expelled out of the exhaust port above (or thru) the prop. When you run the motor on the muffs, look for water coming out the main exhaust as well as the idle relief ports.

SQUEAKIT:<br /><br />Does yours spray water when you're idling?? Mine doesn't.. I haven't put muffs on it and run it that way, so it could be that the water runs out through the prop at idle... Or, it could be that there's no water circulating at all at idle!! I have no idea when the impeller was last replaced, so I probably need to go ahead and do that.. Would you recommend that as a do-it-yourself job, or should I take it somewhere and have it done?? Thanks for the reply!!

The impeller is a great do-it-yourself project. Get a manual if you dont have one already. First time might take you a few hours but after that you can do it in under a hour. Do yourself a favor and replace the whole housing along with the plates instead of just the impeller. Total kit is around 30 bucks. Goog Luck

I have told that with the Forse engines the EARs dont work as well as putting it into a garbage can or something along that line. You can seach this site for more info on Impeller replacement. GET a manual. I replaced mine with the the help of this board and it wasnt that difficult. You will not have a stream of water only droplets in the exhaust. Also my horn was inop when I first started and the Overheat alarm still went off no connection between the two. I hope this helps. :)

One warning if you use a pail the water line must be above the water pump not just above the intake at the bottom of the lower unit. These housings are hard to prime if the water level is below the water pump.

First off, thanks for the replies everybody!!<br /><br />Hey Randy820... I see a few droplets from the 3 exhaust holes when I'm idling, and they 'pulses' a water spray when I'm on plane.. Sound normal?? Also, what did you do when yours overheated? My guess would be to shut it down immediatly, paddle in, and replace the impellor before attempting to restart... Sound about right?? Thanks!
