Shifting sleeves are often a sign of serious overheat.

Sleeves are an interference press fit to the block with the block heated to reduce the amount of interference.

I am hoping Faztbullet while see this an make his recommendation if/how to repair this block.

So my question is: Is it possible to try and press the sleeves down to its place in a hydraulic bench, how is this usually done?
These year models are bad about sleeves slipping and its due to temp and load issues. Engine needs to be propped within 500rpm of max rpm and change t-stat to the 14586 120?. You will need to heat the block in a oven to press sleeves back into position and make sure they dont turn when doing so. Anytime I fix/repair one of these blocks I drill through block/sleeve and pin sleeve in place then cover it with Devcon epoxy. No returs in several years knock on wood:joyous:

Fazt,

What do you think of using the green Lok-Tite stud and bearing locker to 'wick' in alongside the sleeve at the bottom of the sleeve and at the ports?

And do you have any pictures of where you placed the pins?

I expect a written procedure with pic's could become a 'sticky' as this problem has been posted here before, and will again one day.

Maybe its hope anyway fore this engine.I have access to a oven, hydraulic bench and a good honing-bench at a workshop.

How many deegrees in oven, and like charlieB asks, where to drill.

If this part goes well,I will get two new pistons, seals and gaskets, and try to get the outboard running well again.
The rest of the engine is in very good shape, actual looks like its almost new, would be sad to sell it in parts.

I will soon try to post a picture, what about oven deegrees?
And do I have to take them out to check something ,or just warm up the block
and press them to the bottom?

And the sleeves are pressured back to its place and locked with a 5/16 bolt trough the block.
Bored and maked treds in the upper part of sleeve and block, locked with special locktite.

Are now assembly all together again with two new wiseco pistons with rings and honed cylinders.

Firing it up tomorrow I guess.

Any advices about break-in regarding two new pistons ?
