First time on the water last week for this motor. Starts at the click of the key every time, and runs well at all speeds but idle. When dropped into idle to dock etc., it will run ok but eventually seems to load up and choke out. Solenoid lever is in the correct position. New to Evinrude, any ideas? Thanks in advance....

maybe just bring the idle up a bit sounds like when you put it in gear at idle the load causes it to struggle there is an idle adjustment screw on the linkage its the long one below the flywheel loosen the lock nut and turn it in maybe one turn at a time and see if that fixes your issue. should look something like this diagram.

I think unrestrained idle meaning in gear without being tied to the dock should be like 750-800 on this engine I don't have the manual handy at the moment.

Verify that the rollers in the linkage are still full size. The throttle cam follower and the timing cam both have a small 2 piece roller. A hard inner part and a softer outer cover. I find these rollers to break the outer covering off over time which prevents accurately setting the linkage. They also tend to run at high idle but not when controller at idle.

Thanks Jakedaawg - I was wondering if the rubber outer cover could be an issue. The one on the throttle follower was half gone and not engaging, and crumbled in my hand when I touched it. Any idea what the actual name of that part is?

Throttle cam follower roller. I have the parts in the shop, I'll post the part #s in the morning if you like.

0432639 is the sleeve and roller for throttle cam.

0432572 is the sleeve and roller for timing cam

This is great info - thanks!

I see 0432639 list for my motor "late production"
and I see 0397499 for "early production"

How can I tell which I have?

Compare the two blow ups of the carbs...they are different I believe. You will need the parts schematic available at most of the online stores or at BRP...I dont know how to do links.
