93 75hp shuts off

I have a '93 Merc 75hp that has been shutting off after about an hour of trolling. The rest of the time it runs and ildles very well, but just shuts down like this. It seems as though there is no spark- like some kind of auto-shutoff- but the starter will engage. It starts again (easily) after being shut off for an hour or more. Water always comes out the pisser like normal. Could this be a voltage regulator or temperature problem? I don't have a temp gauge. Thanks for any help.

A faulty voltage regulator will not kill the engine...I would suspect a heat related problem.

If it were to kill it though..it would be with an voltage spike...and I am sure it would not start again.

TMD

Thanks for the response TMD. Where would I start looking for a cooling system problem? Are there certain places in the system that tend to get clogged? Since the pisser is working, that means the water pump & impeller are fine right?
