Help! I have cleaned the carbs, I have done a compression check (130, 132, 132, 135), a spark check, replaced # 2 cylinder coil, replaced powerpack, replaced plugs, filters, and VRO bypassed and disconnected.

Engine will crank and idle when started (has fast idle mode). Once it starts to warm up it starts to miss on what I think is #2 cylinder due to heavy oily build up on that plug. Will rev to approx 2000rpm and stay there missing intermittently. Back off on throtle and returns to idle missing same way.

Was told that it could be something bad in my timer base and it could make one cylinder miss intermittently. Want to see if anyone else has had same symptoms and what fix turned out to be.

Any help greatly appreciated.

You need a meter to check the timer. With out checking the manual, this engine has 2 sets of tining sensors, when engine warms up, the timer switches to the run sensors. Ignition parts to expenseive to replace checking with meter.

I will give it a try. Would this have anything to do with my tach not working? I have it connected properly or at least the same as my starboard motor which is working fine.

when that happen to my 120/140 it was the power pack. the tac sounds like the rectifier/regulator.
but clanton is the man.

Before you do anything expensive, check to make sure that cylinders spark plug wire is in good shape and all connections are good. My OMC V-4 did this once.

I would tend to check all connections as Jack suggested before doing anything else. A lose power pack ground will cause the symptoms you described.
