93 Mercruiser 3.0L Starter Solenoid

Ok I know there is a starter solenoid on the starter it self but there is also one mounted on a braket that starts the solenoid on the starter. Why are there 2 solenoids for the starter? Its seems redudndent to have them in series. Can I just buy pass that one, cause it is giving me problems. Is it a amp issue or something I am missing?<br />Thanks again

Ok I now know its a slave solenoid. but whys is it there. Can I just bypass it?

In most cases the slave solenoid will cost under $20.00 from your merc dealer. While bypassing it for testing purposes is OK, I would not recommend it long term. The wiring and ignition switch on some boats just cannot handle the increased current draw.

Would it be ok to use it for about 6 hours on the water, if I cant get the slave solenoid right away?

I think the limit is 3.7 hours of use before ultimate demise.<br /><br />Just joking.Without it you are stressing your wiring harness.Would you be okay,maybe.It's your boat,your safety,and that of those in the boat with you.Boats only burn down to the waterline.<br /><br />Bass boats(and many other boats)use a teather kill switch.These can be bypassed safely until you fall out of the boat and it circles around and runs you over.<br /><br />That's why eliminating/bypassing is only for testing/diagnosing.Short term.<br /><br />DHP
