New to boating bought a 93 Rinker with the 3.0 mercruiser and a alpha1 gen 2. Previous owner installed new carb. Took the boat out yesterday boat ran ok boat would shake a little when you throttled down but would clear up within a few seconds. Boat had a hydro foil on it took it off today and took the boat out boat ran like poop would barley move in the water would never go past 2500 rpm. When I did throttle only it was fine. Took it out of the water and notice the prop was messed up. Would that cause it to bog down and shake the boat . so is it the prop or carb or removing the hydro foil? Also tested in my driveway tonight boat ran fine in the driveway prop would spin at 4500k no problem. Please help

Welcome aboard.

Some advice - Don't redline the motor out of the water. It isn't good good for the motor or rest of the drive line. If the prop breaks, parts of it will fly and possibly hurt some one not even close.

Did you do anything other than take the foil off? Gotta ask.

No I wish I would have done something else. Only thing different than yesterday was the foil. we spent roughly 4hr out there. but the prop looked almost new when we put it in the water if that means anything.

Don't know about it bogging down but I've hit a rock before and the motor went to shaking. Thought I bent the shaft. Swapped out props on the beach and all good.

Welcome.

How deep was the water you were in? Looks like you damaged the prop, and that could cause you some issues in the engine like Little Richard is suggesting.

Prop has a chip in the downward pointed blade in the pix, but it looked almost new when you launched? Perhaps it had been painted by the seller........

Nothing will slow down a 'ran good on day one' boat on day two like water in the outdrive... Just ask the guy who bought our Chaparral- The broker who sold the boat for us forgot to put the dipstick back in the drive... On his day 2 the big 8.1 couldn't muster more than 3600 rpm...

Check your drive for water. Or mayonnaise... I wish you luck...

I'm going to drain outdrive lube after work I guess we will see what happens.

^^^ wondering if you weren't dragging the bottom some from the looks of the prop.

I'm sure at one point I was dragging. Could that cause issues to the outdrive in a way something is badly broken. I driveway tested everything seemed fine. But you don't have all that water in the driveway to stress the prop.

I was thinking the same thing. And in reverse as well. The trailing edge of the blades (would be the leading edge in reverse) is blasted pretty good. That would cause a lot of shake if your on the bottom in reverse hard.

It can. But at the same time, nearly everyone does it sometime or another - so the drives are robust enough to survive it.

Look over the drive for any obvious signs of trouble (cracks, bends, dents, etc.), and check your drive lubes to make sure everything looks right (primarily, no water intrusion). If all that looks right, then I would put it on the water and see what it does - start out easy and stay close to the dock with a plan on how to get it back on the trailer. If nothing sounds or handles weird, put it up on plane a little and see what happens.

It may be that you just need a new or repaired prop to get things back to normal.

After work I'm going to check all fuel lines. Check all lube. Check plugs & wires. Order a new prop thinking about dropping for 19 to a 17 pitch for a little pick up

Update: got home drained fluid gear lube was we like new. Previous owner must have changed it before the sale. Found 2 plugs slightly fouled. Check fuel filter had a stone filter there was some crud in it.
