im looking at buying a boat, the guy selling it says it makes kind of a clicking/grinding noise when idleing, he says hes had the lower unit checked out and its not in the lower unit. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

All the motors make noises, especially the older ones. Could be some piston slap from normal wear. Best thing to do is take the motor out on the lake/river and run it hard(5000+RPM's) for a while and see how it runs. Run motor with top cowling off of it for a ways to try and determine source of noises. If it does fine then it's most likely O.K., at least for a 16 year old motor. Good Luck!
