94 15 hp johnson help

i have a 1994 15 hp johnson, with an electric start, i think it needs a new fuel pump. it will idal fine, but when you try to go it will run for a few seconds the start to want to cut off, i have tried changing the gas line but thats not the problem. what is it?

Oh hey welcome. Seems like i have heard of it just being the starter? Have you tried a new prop? Mabye u just need a new motor all together.

try pumping the primer bulb when it starts to stall and see if the motor picks up and lets us know what happens!

i have tried that, i have even tried it while its running, it sees like its not getting enough fuel

okay well if it's probably not the fuel pump because if you tried pumping the bulb while running the engine it would have by passed the fuel pump all together. have you checked your commpression,spark and for checked or rotted fuel lines sucking air? also check you vent on your gas tank to make sure it is open! you may have to rebuild your carb if all else checks out

alright, it used too work when you pumped it while running, it would run good then, it wont let me do that anymore though. how/where do i get my compresion checked and what should it be?

In case the pros are out voting, I'll chime in.

Some auto parts stores like Autozone have a free tool loaner program, including compression testers. Check around your area. Also, here's the procedure that was given to me...

Basically

1) remove ALL the plugs.
2) check the compression gauge end to make sure it's not longer than the spark plug threads. And ground out the plug wires (nail in the boot placed against the block works).
3) screw the gauge into a plug hole.
4) jump the starter solenoid from the power lead, or turn the ignition until the gauge stabilizes.
5) Write down the number on the gauge.

repeat for each hole.
