I think you have the idle bleed screws on that 115? Could need an adjustment. Have you checked the bulb after it dies or tried to pump it? Check that battery connections are clean and tight with nuts not wings. Is fuel fresh? Check spark with spark gap. There are a bunch more diagnostics that could be done.

this engine has all new parts from fuelpump, fuelines, clean carbs, clean acceratorpump,to new plugs to new tank and bulb. it wont stay running but a minute then dies, bulb is hard and will stay running with hit from the choke?

Re: 94-96 mercury fuel problem

In as much as a two stroke without fuel will die so will a two stroke with too much fuel or unburnt fuel accumulation (loading up). Hitting the choke can sometime seem to help the motor to run in both cases. Wierd but not if you know how a two stroke works.

Too much retard on the idle timing can be one thing that causes this as well as weak spark from a failing low speed stator coil. One problem that I have personally seen with the same results as yours is overcompensating a rich running engine with the idle timing. Check your intial timing at cranking speed. If its within spec then test the low speed stator coil voltage at cranking speed.

Re: 94-96 mercury fuel problem

Im having simular problems on a 99' 15 hp. I originally thought it was a fuel issue,( rebuilt carb with a known good fuel tank and lines and still same problem- cant get above idle and only way to keep running is to choke it and play with the timing advance.)now im thinking it electrical, i checked the stator resistance for the "red stator" and was quite low from the specs -412- it should be between 660-710 ohms. Not sure what your model calls for but may want to test it and see.I will post my question about the stator in the forums. keep posted.
