They used several different motors. Need specific details about your motor. Model would help. Sounds like it may be a 90HP motor. Also, some past history might be helpful.......did the motor used to start fine and now all of the sudden it doesn't? I'm assuming the motor is running a jet pump?

Spraying anything into the carb throat doesn't help clean the carb at all, it needs to be taken apart and cleaned thoroughly.

You also need to check the compression, low compression can cause hard starting when cold.

While the caps are fine with these old eyes, I'm sure that others will resent shouting. LOL

The carb cleaner is a source of fuel Once the engine starts it is good until you let it sit. THUS: you have problems with cold starting. You need to go back and check the fuel enrichment valve. Try turning the red lever to manual and see if that does it. If so, then the enrichment valve needs to be replaced. Check the feed line from the carb bowl to be certain it is not clogged and double check the other lines too.

ALSO: Are you using correct starting procedure? Some of these engines are fussy when cold. They require starting in the fast idle/ warm-up position.
