hi everyone I am new to this site and have read a lot of useful info on this motor already. I bought this sea rayder f14 boat because it was cheap and not running. I tore the front of the engine down to the reeds and got it fixed no problem with the merc manual I bought which by the way leaves a lot to be desired from a tech manual!! the one subject it doesn't cover is how to time the oil injection pump? I have set everything else and it idles good but smokes like were fogging for bugs at idle so I haven't driven it yet till I get that tamed down.

can anyone tell me how that has to be timed or does anyone have a manual that covers timing the inj pump and could copy that section? any help would be appreciated.

also can anyone tell me how to change the water pump impeller for cooling the engine? this merc repair manual I bought which looks like a factory repair manual does not cover water pump impeller. also how often should a guy change the oil in the stator and jet gear box? the merc marine service manual I bought and am using doesn't say what kind of gear oil just says quick silver gear oil pn 92-816026a4 and an online search doesn't come up with a match for the pn #.......anyone know what gear lube that would be as in weight etc etc?

ok well one member answered my question about the cooling impeller , it doesn't exist so I don't know for sure what the tech at Iboats sold me. I will have to call a local shop to see what oil to use I guess. there are 3 marks on the oil inj pump and 1 is closest at idle so I guess we'll line that one up for now till I can find a manual that covers oil inj boats. can't find a serial # on the engine but the boat hull is 1994 so this has to be atleast a 94 engine or maybe a 95, cause I don't see a 93 oil inj'd?

For the oil injection, from the manual: "Move towershaft [throttle] to wide open throttle position. Inspect oil pump aligment mark with the oil pump lever. Adjust oil pump link rod to align with last mark". So looking at the oil pump lever, from left to right it should be the 3rd mark at WOT.

thanks for the info and I assumed that was what the 3 marks were 4 and did set it that way. when set that way the 1 mark lines up at idle as well but since I did test the needle and seats on the carbs and found the #1 carb wasn't shutting off and flooding which out the yellow bowl vent tubes floods the next carb on down the path! lol trickle down theory lol

Re: '94 searayder f14 90 hp timinig help

I have read a lot of posts stating not to disconnect it so I would guess they are. it has been 6 years or more since I have owned a boat and the last two were 170 hp 17 footer and the last a 24 foot deck boat with a 210 hp I/o so my first run in this was very disappointing but I bought it cause it was cheap and I thought it would fit into my toyhauler so I didn't have to worry about length limits plus the kids are grown and gone so since we live 10 min's from the boat ramps of an alright lake it's not a bad little boat well once I get the last gremlin kicked out lol
