I bought this 94 stingray, it neended an impleller pump and a starter.got them out on and the starter bolts seemed to long, had to go to shorter bolts. The starter worked but sounded bad for about a week, now it want start the motor just makes the typical bad starter growl............Any ideas what's up?

They brand of boat doesn't matter. What is the engine? Serial number would also help.

Verify the battery is fully charged. If not charge and check.
If it is, disconnect the battery and then check to see if the starter has loosened. Just give it a wiggle. If it has, your replacement bolts might be too long. Try shimming with extra washers on the outside of the starter to get it snug to the engine.
Also check all your wire connections are snug and clean.
Then see how it cranks.
