Excuse me for my lack of information on this question but it is not my motor and I am not the person working on it I am just trying to lend a helping hand. I frequent the Evinrude forums quite a bit because that is what I have but this is my first time asking about a Mercury.
Anyway my son just called me and said the other day he had his boat out and the pee tube quit peeing. Today he put a new impeller in the water pump and he still got no stream. Then he pulled the hose of the pee hole and it was full of sand and shell. Once he cleaned it out he got a strong stream for about 10 minutes then it quit all together again.
I told him it sounded to me like his water passages might be full of sand and if not something probably happened and the impeller is spinning on the shaft. He didn't think that was possible because the impeller key is such a tight fit in the housing it would be next to impossible for it to come out.
So I am assuming the whole system is similar to an Evinrude and there is not much else that could go wrong. Am I correct and if so what would be the best way for him to clear the water passages? I was thinking maybe he could use his air compressor to backwash it through the pee hose? I know that would only be a temporary fix because what ever is clogging the passages would still be in there but at least he would know what the root of the problem is.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Mike
