Hello all,

Can anyone tell me what amp charging system I have? I need to buy a new stator, and found some on this site at the bottom of the page, but they have two, one for a 9-amp charging system and one for a 16-amp charging system.
The motor is a Force 120 hp with serial OE122079, which I have found to be a '95 motor.

Thanks for any help you can give! :)

Thanks for the advice. Not sure how I got to that other page on the CDI website.

I contacted one of their dealers, who said that I should also replace the switchbox when I replace the stator. Does that sound right to you? It's quite expensive...

Thanks again.

Well, in your first post you just said you needed a stator, you didn't tell us what problems you were having so it is hard to tell you to replace the switchbox. Why are you replacing the stator?

I think it is high time you discuss in detail what the problem is with the O/B motor. And then instead of piecemeal advice you can get a full picture on what needs to be done.

Re: '95 Force 120 - what amperage is my charging system?

I'll try to remember the details from this last summer. The motor was very reluctant to start, and acted as if there was a lot of resistance against the starter. If I kept trying for too long the starter would start to smoke. I believe we had the starter checked out and originally it was ok (though it might need to be replaced by now). We took the motor in and the mechanic said we needed a new stator put in to the tune of $900. Decided to try to find our own part and do it ourselves. So basically all we know is that it needs a new stator, and that I called one of the distributors for CDI and they said "Oh if you're getting a new stator you also need this switchbox that's really expensive too!"
So I'm wondering if that's really true or not. Maybe it's not possible to determine with the information I have. I'm also trying to get the mechanics we took it to to look up their records and find what their diagnosis was specifically.

Thanks.
