repaired a problem with the magneto wire shorting out with help from you guys, but now it is acting up again.

It ran great out of the water. Fired immediately and would idle fine. Put it in the water and it wont start. It will turn over but not start. Check plugs, dirty. Clean plugs, reinstall. Runs, but doesnt seem to be running at WOT. Shut it off, starts back up fine, hook up a tube behind it with a rider, pulls away but as soon as there is a load it dies...

pull plugs, dirty, clean them, nothing, repeat, nothing, sputters but wont start.. finally starts after about 5 tries..... running much better.. increased gap in plugs and scratched the electrodes up a bit.

runs great, pull over hook up tube again... same thing.. any load and it wont run at all afterwards.... soo.. thanks to a friendly boater i got a tow back to the ramp...

the fuel oil mix was 50:1, the power pack and coil are new, and when it would run it would run fine until I would shut it off, but it wouldnt start.. just sputter and try to start but die within a second....

perhaps it is running too rich?

Thanks again!

Does it have VRO? I don't know what years were equiped with VRO. If it has it and it is still working you would be getting more that double the oil, could foul out plugs.

What does it do when you are not pulling something? Can you get to WOT and sustain it? When was the last time the carbs were cleaned and rebuilt? Sounds like it is probably carbs. However, you should start by testing your compression and spark. You should have a 100+ compression and both cylinders should be within 10% of each other. Spark should jump at least a 7/16 gap on the tester. Post the numbers to let us know.
