I am trying to remove the lower unit and was wondering I anyone could tell me how to disconnect the shift rod? The Seloc manual doesn't address this. I read some posts that referr to other motors, that said under the carb? It appears the rod is 2 pcs threaded together in the center. I can see what appears to be a locknut on the lower side and a wide nut? above that. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: '95 Yamaha 25h-shift rod

I looked on yamahas parts catalog. 25h is not specific enough to identify your motor. I looked at one of the motors, I think that if you shift into forward or reverse the coupling nut will appear somewhere on the leading edge of the motor. you may have to have the engine tilted up to see.

put the lower unit back on with a couple of bolts until you get the linkage off.

get a chilton or clymer repair manual ( not a tune-up guide ) it will pay for itself in one repair.

mistakes on outboards are always expensive. go slowly and carefully.

bag the clymer, chilton or seloc, simply buy the correct manual from your local dealership.
are we discussing a 25 or an F25?
