96 Glastron SSV 175 - floor / seat mounting repair?

Hey guys, just bought this boat last week. Took her out Sunday and found a few things I need to repair. The driver seat screws pulled out of the floor. Just wondering if I could use toggle bolts or something to re-install or is the fuel tank in this area? Don't want to drill into that. Looked in the ski locker but there is a partition there so can't see into that area. Anyone have any recommendations on the best way to tackle this one? The floor does seem soft in some other areas as well but not bad. Thanks in advance!

Post some pix of the deck (floor) area that the seat pulled thru. It's a pedestal seat? The previous owner modified the original boat's interior or did some 'restoration' work? It is a nearly 20yr old boat.

Properly installed screws don't typically pull thru a sound deck. I suspect there is more work pending then you expect.

Welcome AquaholicMike,

Like has been mentioned, there may be quite a bit more work involved...

You will find throughout this restoration forum, the majority of guys who thought that a simple fix was the order of the day has turned into a full rebuild...

Now, don't get me wrong...1 out of, oh, maybe a few hundred are fortunate enough to find that the "bones" of their craft are still sound, but unfortunately the odds are not in our favor...

If the boat has seen more than a little neglect, such as sleeping under the stars for a season or more, been put away wet and generally had the same care and attention most boats get from their original owners after they grow tired of them...then more than likely you are in for some serious work if you really, really like this boat and plan to keep it for a long time...

As was also mentioned, we thrive on pictures...they help us see what you see and give better suggestions...

Best of luck and have fun!

Just to update you guys, haven't posted any pics cause not much to see with the carpet still in. I ended up moving the seat forward a foot or so. (It is a pedestal) Its pretty good there and no problems since. I think the floor near the rear seat does need work. May get into that next winter but for now it will work. Thanks again.

At the very least, I'd highly recommend you do a thorough inspection of the transom to ensure it's sound. If you're going to be using the boat on the lake this season, you for sure don't want to be on the lake in a boat with a rotten transom.

The transom and everything else seems to be in pretty good shape. A couple of seat cushions have rotten wood bottoms that I'll replace but other than the rear floor area it's not bad. Thanks.

My earlier comments stand:

What have you done, if anything, to ensure that the transom IS in good shape? Have you taken Core Samples? Have you bounced on the leg of the Outboard or the outdrive to see if there is any flex? Have you pulled any of the bolts and inspected the holes to check for wet wood? 18 yr old boats with Soft Decks usually have lots of other issues as jbc has pointed out. We are ALL about safety here on the forum and we are just trying to ensure you are going to have an enjoyable and safe boating season.;)

I did bounce on the leg of the outdrive, no flex. I'll pull some bolts out when I get a chance and inspect to be sure. Here's a pic of the floor, like I said not much to see. I'm sure it needs a new floor, just not ready to get into that. Need to learn a little about fiberglass repair though, got some other holes I need to fix on the outside where a wakeboard tower was bolted on.
