96 johnson 3.0 liter

im looking at a 21' stratos , with a 96 johnson 3.0 liter special . i would like to know any pros and cons to that motor . i dont know the motor any info about the 3.0 thanks very much

Havent ever seen a "special" but have see a limited edition. Just a standard V-6 with light weight cowling and stiffer mounts...

I've never called them 3.0's. I just refer to v-6 or v-8. We raced some in the old days but the way we abused them they held together well.

Had a couple on outboard drag boats.. we would get ~25hrs on a crank shafts but we were spinning them with no rev limiters, basically spinning em apart to where we could be competitive.

I also was not the engine builder on that team. Just crew and then flyer.

I didn't even know it was a 6cyl . haven't saw it yet, was just trying to get some history and HP rating and if they last good if maintained properly . if you know of any weak points , or the good points about them. If they are a good motor for bass boats. Thank you jakedog and FAztbullet for your replys

They can be anywhere from 185 -250 hp...And if its any good depends on previous owner maintenance.

again Faztbullet thanks for the info , is there a way to know the hp. i understand po maintenance . i was just wondering if there were any design problems. like my v-4 johnson they say had problems with the compression rings. really thank you for your knowledge and time.
