I just purchased a 200HP Merc. offshore and was wondering how difficult it is to change the water pump. It has not been in water in 2 years and the last few times were salt water so I want to be cautious. Also my boat does not have a temp gauge so can I add a temp sending unit to this motor.

Thanks for any input

Hi,
Welcome to the board. I would say, you can change the pump.
If you don't have a book for your motor that's where you need to start.
The book will save you time and money in the long run. Changing the pump should only take about an hour for the first timer. Read the book before you
start and follow it closely. This is also a good time to change the lower lube.
Temp gauge can be added, you can find wiring detail in the merc book. If my memory is right I think it's the tan wire for temp gauge, But i don't have my books here at the house so check the wiring detail.

I hope this helps

The temp wire was a tan wire with white stripe coming from the sending unit on the top of the port head.
