130 hp. in a 97 searay.

Im having some carb trouble, when I accelerate even in neutral motor wants to bog down and stall, or if im underway, and decel to slow down it does the same, eventually it gets hard to start ,almost like it floods itself.

Im looking to run some seafoam through it and I know I can put it in the gas tank and run it like that but im thinking about trying to do a vacuum line trick or something like that....Anybody have any ideas on how I can get a good concentrated amount of seafoam into the carb? which vac lines do I use and so forth..

I heard it smokes like holy hell when doing it,but it works.

Thanks.

Have you changed your water separating fuel filter?.....
Running crappy in neutral, is more likely some other issue than a dirty carb.....;)
What, if any, preventative maint has been done?....
Ie, full tune up?......
To answer your sea foam question, get an auxillary tank & hook it up temporarily & you can get the concentration of Seafoam you want.....
You might want to try it with just plain old gas.....
If it runs OK off of the aux tank, the problem is not the carb, but lies somewhere else in the fuel system.....;)

Quit kidding yourself,........

You need Way More than a Mechanic in a Can for your Issues......

Re: 97 3.0 Mercruiser

Thanks...I just bought the boat from a friend and I normally helped with most of the work....I know the plugs and wires were changed last season, along with oil change in the motor and gear oil in lower unit...

I never said the "mechanic in a can"was going to fix my problems, I was just asking for advice on how to get the highest concentrated amount of seafoam into the engine...Ive had similar problems with other small engines including my outboard and the seafoam did help.

Just last friday we took the boat to the lake and that was the first sign of problems that I described, the previous owner had just filled up the tank also,so immediately he thought bad gas. The boat ran, we used it all day...Just its not running the way I would like it...

As I said I just bought the boat so I dont have a manual yet, but I will get one...Where can I find the water seperating filter on the boat.

Just wondering if he has a fuel water seperator? Absolutely first thing I would install if not already there. You will see it first thing if there is one as it looks somewhat like an oil filter. Follow the lines from the fuel tank to the fuel pump. That is where it will be.

Here is a link to one. http://www.glmmarine.com/product-separatorkits.html ... Did not even look at the price but I paid $35 for mine

I would pull the micro filter at carb. It is where the line from the fuel pump meets the carb.

Also, when I had the same issues when i purchased my capri 1950 with the 3.0, I cleaned the filter in the fuel pump also.

After I installed my fuel water seperator, it plugged up in a week and had to change the filter. Now problems since, 3 years later.
