97 merc. 40hp thermostat location and serial # help ?

Does anyone know where the thermostst is located on these models ? also having some trouble finding the imfo. with the serial # or model # serial # is OG357182P and the model# is 40ELPTD it is a 40 hp, 2 cycle, 4 cyl., 2 carb, black with red decals

The model of the engine is a 1040412SD and here is the parts listing:

You must have Adobe Acrobat reader installed to use this manual. If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

It appears that you only have a temperature switch.

That may be the case I dont know the book I have shows it to have one but gives NO imfo. on where it should be at all ? thank for your help and this link imfo.... William
