I need some direction. I can't get my XP to start. It ran fine one day then when I got it home to flush it -nothing from the starter button. When I hook up my dess lanyard I get the 2 beeps. The beaps are weak as the beeper is on its way out. The gauges all light up, vts works. But when I press the start button I get nothing ...silence. So I checked the battery & terminals. Fuses. Reattached the dess/lanyard multiple times. Nothing. I jumped the starter solenoid and I get the starter to crank. I get 12.2 volts on one side of the solenoid. I had mouse damage to one of the wires going to the beeper but that has been repaired. Any ideas. Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply!
Is there any way to test the button to see if it is faulty? One other thing I noticed is when I press the start button without the dess/lanyard attached, the gauges do fire up and the vts works.

are you sure the solonoid for the starter isn't bad or a fuse is blown, I had a bad post for the dess once that did what you are saying and checking it by the book it showed it was ok but when I replaced it it solved the problem ,, do you hear the solenoid click when you press the start button? you can un plug the start switch and use a meter to see if it has continuity when you press it

I checked all the fuses, they were fine. I don't get any clicking at the solenoid when I press the start button. I will check the solenoid to see if I get voltage when I press the button. I will also check for continuity.
Let you know what I find. Thanks.

Still no clicking sound at the solenoid. I checked for continuity when pressing the starter button and got continuity.

So I am leaning toward the dess post. I have to set and reset the dess lanyard some times to to get the 2 beeps to try to start it. Is the dess post test procedure difficult? Previously the ski would be tempermental about starting. It would crank and start or it would just crank. I would reset the dess lanyard and it would fire up. Is this a sign of the dess post on its way out? How does a new one get programmed to the dess lanyard?

Thanks for the help.

Re: 97 Seadoo Xp starter button does work....

changing the post will not require any programming ,that is stored in the computer, as long as you use the same key the post just reads the resistance in the key and sends it to the computer. as for testing the post I did the book test and it only tests 2 of the 3 wires so it isn't reliable, I had a post available and decided to just change it to see what would happen, when I did the problem was solved I have also had keys go bad and that does require reprogramming.

I don't know Jeff. This ski is driving me nuts. I replaced the dess post. But no luck. Same results-nothing. I rechecked all the fuses. I checked to see if I got any voltage at the started solenoid when the starter button is pressed but got nothing. Checked the 15amp fuse in the electrical box as well. The confusing part is I do get 2 (weak) beeps when I connect the dess lanyard most of the time. Any other suggestions. I am open to all of them...
thanks,

go in to your wire harness conector plugs and clean all the pin conectors clean the negative battery cable at both ends. in the electrical box clean all the ground wires and you may want to run an extra ground to the battery , old sea doo wire harnesses loose the ground because some times the wire corrodes inside the coating and you can't tell without doing a continuity check on each ground wire.

Re: 97 Seadoo Xp starter button does work....

Well I cleaned all the connectors and checked for continuity and resistence on all the wires on the wiring harnesses. Put everything back together and decided to check again for signal voltage at the starter solenoid/relay when the starter button was pressed. Bingo I got voltage but no clicking or cranking. So tested the solenoid/relay and found it was toast. Replaced and started right up!

One thing I did notice was some rust on circiut board on the inside of the sealed recifier. I will keep an eye on it now to see if it gets worse.

Thanks for the help!
