Hi folks,
This website helped me out a bunch last year with my Merc problems, now I have a Javelin with a 98' 225 johnson venom motor. It had not been run in several months when I bought it, I expected the carbs to be gummed up. I cleaned the carbs, got it running (idled ok in the driveway), but when I launched it it would not idle good. I figured the old gas probably had something to do with this, so I changed the plugs, checked the carbs again, and filled her up with new gas. Same problem. It wont idle, and it loads up really really bad at low speeds. I mean it kills mosquitoes for miles in an idle zone. I brought it home and fiered it up in the driveway again, and it won't idle. It is burning tons of gas also, and the prop is all gunked up with crud. I figured the floats were bad, but they and the float valves are working properly. I did notice that the bulb doesn't get "rock solid" when I pump it, and that if I pump it up, it will leak gas through the throttle body butterfly mechanism. Is this normal? Is there a kit to rebuild the throttle body? What about reeds? Any help would be greatly appreciated, i thought this would be an easy one, but it has me stumped.
rich

Sounds like the primer is on. Make sure the red lever is in the off position. Check the cap to make sure its not cracked too.

Silly question -- are the plug wires hooked up to the correct cylinder? We're sure they are but you might look...

Oh yeah, I actually meant to ask about the "primer", and what it is for. What exactly is the off position anyhow? This could very well be the problem!

Rich
