99 Evinrude 50 hp 4 stroke water pump failure, do I do Further exploratory surgery?

The water pump failed and the ends of the impeller went into the engine, before I bought the boat. the water pump was replaced, with no engine flush, and run for several hours with no overheat. So it could have flushed itself out. Water flow from the tell tale is there, just is not real strong, those small hoses are cleaned out.

With the lower unit off, and the thermostat out, I water pressure flushed the motor both ways, into a large drum, and got 1 piece out, pulled the mid case and removed the pressure relief valve and housing found nothing.

THE BIG QUESTION IS, do I continue exploratory surgery? and if so what do I pull next? or put it all back together and just watch it. the engine is like new with less than 50 hours, and don't want to ruin it. Thanks

Run it and keep a good eye on it.

I have no idea how your motor is laid out, but I found a piece of impeller stuck under the thermostat housing plate on my 68 evinrude 18 hp. That might be one more place to look.

Thanks, thats where I found the 1 piece that I found was under the thermostat.

How strong is the tell tale supposed to be?

Will put it back together and run it. Thanks
