Looking at a 1999 DF50 for my Striper 15.

Seems to me that engine has the timing run by a pressed crank. Cams are gear driven.

If it is backfiring while trying (unsuccessfully) to run my guess is that the crank has slipped and it is a parts engine.

Anyone seen this before? What do you think?

JB,
Check the timing with a light. ECM gets its timing signal from a 3 piece crank position sensor (one for each cylinder). You also have a cam position sensor. Also, if the plugs have been removed, make sure the coil connections are correct. Best thing is to bring it to a Suzuki tech and have him hook it up to the laptop. If you need more detailed info, let me know.

Gary

Thanks for the info, Gary.

Too late for me to do anything now. It was on ebay and sold to someone else for $750.
