I have a 99' yamaha 115 v4, and i am trying to replace the impeller for the water pump. i have the lower unit off and the plastic housing off.

now there is a sleeve above the impeller that has to come off to get the impeller off. it wont come off. it almost looks like it is a pressed sleeve. i would just have cut it off but the kit didn't come with a new one.

is there some speacial way to get this thing off?

If you are talking about the sleeve over the impellor inside the pump housing, carefully pry with a screwdriver until it comes off. The impellor may come with it, but can easily be removed when it is free

yes that is exactly what i am talking about. i have got it to move maybe about 1/8 of an inch but it won't go any farther. i cleaned the shaft with some emery cloth before also. not sure what else to do. i have tried every way i can think of to pry it off. i got a pry bar and a socket to set the pry bar on and it still wouldn't budge. its almost like it is catching on a lip but when i knock the sleeve back down there is no lip.

i am fixing to see how much it it to get that sleeve new and just cut it off. not sure what else to do unless some one has another idea.

Oh yea the sleeve will turn on the shaft, so its not siezed on there.
