I have a 3 cyl. 60 hp, low hours, well maintained. After getting up to operating temp., if I turn it off, it wont re-start for approx. 15 minutes- it's obviously after "cooling down". This engine does this consistantly. It has no other issues, everything else about this engine is " normal". It runs smoothly when idling or running flat-out. It just refuses to re-start until I let it cool-down for approx. 15 minutes. I've had the carbs rebuilt, VRO rebuilt, fuel filter replaced- none of those things have made any difference. Any OMC /Bombardier mechanic care to taclke this one ?

I failed to mention, the engine temp. is OK, definitely not overheating. I bought this engine New in 2001, it now has 33 hours on it ,and has been doing this ever since I bought it. The engine came with no warranty due to OMC's demise. Some particular part or system is waiting for a 15 minute ( approx.) cool-down every time. Are you thinking that the QuickStart system could be somehow impeding a re-start for the engine after it reaches normal operating temp ? Please elaborate .

After engine reaches operating temp ( i.e.: 10 to 15 minute run up the river), it wont re-start until it cools off for at least 15 minutes. The engine starts OK when cold, it runs well if you keep it running all day( fast or idle), but it refuses to re-start after reaching normal operating temp. You have to let it cool-off for 15 minutes first. Carbs are clean, filter new, VRO has been rebuilt( just in case), engine is almost like new, only 33 hours. It's been doing this since I purchased New in 2001 ( no OMC warranty).

QuickStart (a 10? timing advance) activates as long as the engine RPM is below 1100, the engine temperature is below 105? F and the Yellow/Red wire from the starter solenoid is not feeding 12V DC to the power pack all of the time. That being said, are you overheating at all. When is the last time the impeller/ water pump/t stats were serviced?

Does it mention anything like that in your manual, I dont have a manual for that year so am searching online sources that I can think of. Just throwing out ideas, I am by no means a mechanic. QuickStart will also activate for 5-10 seconds each time the engine is started regardless of engine temperature. CDI Electronics (blue case with red sleeve) power packs have a built-in feature to compensate for a shorted cold sensor, allowing the engine to come out of QuickStart after 5 minutes of running time regardless of the condition of the cold sensor.
