Howdy, Shadowdepp.

Very little changes in the subjects Chapman's covers.

I would go for the latest edition on the idea that what has changed is important. iboats has it for less.

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...05&cart_id=133195090&current_category=chapman

On the other hand, If my funds were very limited I would much rather have an older edition than none. :)

I have 5 volumes covering the last 45 yrs (50s through 90s)...about the only thing that changes in Chapmans is the USCG requirements etc. The piloting and seamanship parts pretty much stay the same. I personally don't depend on Chapman's for any up to date legal info either because it can change the day after their new editions go out. It is always best to contact the USCG for lastest regs anyway. Last time I looked, Chapmans were very cheap in the auctions and you could get any volume you wanted.

Modern Seamanship by Dobbs is also good. You may find it for less than Chapmans.

Kelly Cook
