Thanks to all of you that responded to my post "Can you help this SUCKER". I got the boat back and it's running OK. At least it runs.

Took it out today and noticed the steering cables are about to break. It's a Johnson 150GT with the Tracker Branding on it. Year 1991. How difficult is replacing the cables? I would really like to do it myself to avoid the Wife saying "I told you shouldn't have bought that boat". ANy suggestions are appreciated. Thanks again!

what type of cable is it ? single cable in the black sheath, or the old pulley type cables.

Skill level (1), it's pretty easy. Make sure you get the correct length and pre- lubricate the new cable before installing it. This would be a great time for you to grab your grease gun and fill all you grease fittings.

It's not pulley style. But I thought there were two cables. They run parallel to each other along the back and both are cracked and one is ready to snap.

Skill level 1 sounds about perfect for me. 8)

Your4 probably right. On the bigger motors starting at the V6 level, twin cables are recommended and installed by most of the dealers when they rig a boat.
Your wife will probably be mad anyway, the cables aren't cheap.
Unless you install the nuts with the grease zirks on the tilt tube then there is nothing to lube on the cables.

Re: A big thank you and one more question

look closely at the outer covering of the cables they had numbers on them at one time. you can call the iboats store they are very helpful and very knowledgeable about teleflex cables.
